I would expect some push back but for latinx in particular it's possible long standing immigrants are proud of bilingualism and want English as state language to stamp their difference from more recent entries.

I know CA nearly passed a Spanish language proposition some years back. But, in all these things "it's complicated"

Still, one must ask whatever happened to all the "States' Rights" folks...
