Is this legal case still ongoing? At first I was under the impression that this was about Apple's lackluster compliance with the DMA, but it looks like it might be about whether the DMA applies to Apple at all.
From this article, it seems they've been actively involved in the regulatory process for some time now, which is really cool. I had no idea that the concerns of free software advocates were legitimately being taken into consideration here.
Looks like Apple v. EC (over whether the DMA should apply to Apple) is indeed still ongoing at the same time as the EC's non-compliance investigations. FSFE submitted arguments to the court in favor of the EC just last month.
Apple can't release their strict app store policy for the simple reason that they still have a native code platform. This would open them up to hackerville population 5mil+
They aren’t taking a principled stand for open platforms, they’re trying to create a landscape in which more European tech unicorns can flourish. The best outcome to them is for European companies to gain significant market share in digital payments, app distribution, social media, text messaging, etc. The M is for Markets for a reason.
